SENIX 22 Inch Rear Wheel Review

The Highest Rated Self-Propelled Gas Mower

The SENIX 22 inch 201cc is a rear wheel drive self-propelled gas mower rated at 4.7HP and sold for $519.00, with 4.3 stars from 430 ratings. Owners with rough ground and heavy grass rate it highest of any self-propelled mower we researched, and the catch is that most of those ratings were written about the cheaper 20 inch 125cc version on the same listing.

The verdict

The best rated self-propelled mower, with an asterisk

At 4.3 stars from 430 ratings, the SENIX 22 inch 201cc has the best rating of any self-propelled gas mower on Amazon that we could find. At $519.00 it is also the most expensive mower in our top ten by $79.01.

Before paying that premium, look at what the 430 ratings are attached to. Four versions share the listing: the 22 inch 201cc you would be buying, a 20 inch 125cc at $390.21, and two 20 inch bundles. Nearly every review we read carried the 20 inch 125cc tag. The 4.3 stars is largely a verdict on a smaller, weaker and cheaper machine.

The engine, and the only horsepower figure in the category

SENIX quotes the 201cc OHV 4-cycle engine at 4.7HP. No other gas mower listing in our ten publishes a horsepower figure at all, which makes comparison difficult and makes this one worth noting.

Owners of the 22 inch version are consistent about what that power feels like. Rob, 5 stars on 22 Jun 2026 with 5 helpful votes, says the engine started on the very first pull, describes the mower as heavy but heavy duty, and explains he bought it for rough terrain and a tough lawn specifically because of the engine size. Doug Lotspeich, 5 stars on 18 Jun 2026 with 7 helpful votes, reports the mower arrived well packaged with hard reinforcements in the box corners, came with a 15 ounce bottle of oil that was the perfect amount for the reservoir, and says assembly was a piece of cake.

Single speed is a genuine downgrade

The listing describes a Single Self-Propelled Drive. One ground speed, take it or leave it.

Both cheaper SENIX 22 inch mowers are variable speed. Paying $519.00 here buys you a better star rating and less control over how fast you walk. Owners of the variable speed versions rate pace control highly, and one professional user reports the drive takes some getting used to but is worth having.

What owners of the cheaper version say

Since most of the reviews describe the 20 inch 125cc, they are worth reading on their own terms.

TN Casual, 5 stars on 2 Aug 2025 with 9 helpful votes, wrote the fairest line anybody has written about this entire category. Asked whether it compares to a $400 mower, his answer is no, followed immediately by the observation that it is budget friendly and gets the job done. He mows 5 acres and a Gravely ProTurn 460 handles 99.9 percent of it, so he knows what a real mower feels like.

Chris, 4 stars on 6 Aug 2025 with 5 helpful votes, called it the cheapest mower he could find, notes it came assembled apart from unfolding the handle, and reports it takes three or four pulls to start. Three or four pulls is what you get without an automatic choke.

Kitten Twizted Cult, 5 stars on 6 Sep 2026, bought online specifically because the prices and reviews in stores like Home Depot were not worth it. Worth hearing the argument from the other side, given how much of this category points the other way.

Where the listing contradicts itself

Amazon shows the material for this mower as Metal. On three other SENIX gas mowers the same spec block reads Stainless Steel, while the bullets on those pages say steel deck or steel chassis. No gas mower at these prices has a stainless deck, and the bullet here is more credible: a DC04-06 low carbon high strength steel deck.

SENIX also rates the deck for lawns up to 11/20 of an acre, which is an unusual way to write 0.55 acres and reads like a translation artifact rather than a measurement.

Who should buy it

Owners of rough, sloping or heavily grassed ground who want rear wheel drive and the strongest engine here. On the hardware it earns the recommendation.

On price it is a harder sell, because the SENIX 22 inch variable speed at $359.10 has the same deck, the same 201cc engine, the same rear wheel drive and the same 6 cutting positions, plus pace control, for $159.90 less.

Questions people ask

Is the SENIX 22 inch worth $519.00?

On the hardware, no, because SENIX sells 22 inch 201cc rear wheel self-propelled mowers on two other listings at $359.10 and $439.99. What you pay extra for here is the 4.3 star rating and a quoted 4.7HP, and the rating is pooled across versions, so weigh that carefully.

Does this mower have variable speed?

No. The listing describes a Single Self-Propelled Drive, which means one fixed ground speed. The SENIX 22 inch at $359.10 and the one at $439.99 are both variable speed, so paying more here actually buys you less control.

What is the 430 rating count measuring?

Four versions share it: the 22 inch 201cc, a 20 inch 125cc at $390.21, and two 20 inch bundles. Nearly every review we read was tagged 20 inch 125cc, so the 4.3 stars mostly describes a different and cheaper mower.

Will it handle thick or wet grass?

Owners say yes. Rob, 5 stars on 22 Jun 2026, reports the engine started on the very first pull and that he bought it for rough terrain and a tough lawn because of the engine size. He calls it heavy but heavy duty.

How much oil does it need and is oil included?

Oil is included. Doug Lotspeich, 5 stars on 18 Jun 2026, reports a small 15 ounce bottle of engine oil in the box and says it was the perfect amount to fill the reservoir. SENIX does not publish the crankcase capacity on the listing.
