Most trustworthy rating Gas Lawn Mowers

PowerSmart EasyDrive Pro Review

The Most Honest Rating Here

The PowerSmart EasyDrive Pro is a 22 inch rear wheel drive self-propelled gas mower with a 170cc engine, an automatic choke and a 60L grass bag at $359.99. Its 3.9 stars come from 415 ratings on a single product rather than a pool of variants, which makes it the most trustworthy number in the category, and the catch is a rear clippings port that owners say blocks constantly.

The verdict

A lower star rating that is worth more

The EasyDrive Pro shows 3.9 stars from 415 ratings, which puts it below most of this lineup. Rank it on honesty and it moves up several places.

Eight of the ten mowers we researched pool their ratings across several different products. Three SENIX listings share a 1,349 count that covers five mowers between 18 and 22 inches with four different engines. A PowerSmart listing shows 1,919 ratings that include reviews from 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The 415 ratings here belong to one mower. The listing has one unavailable sibling and no engine variants, and every review we read carried a plain Color Black tag. A buyer reading 3.9 stars is reading a verdict on the machine in the cart.

The automatic choke does its job

PowerSmart fits an automatic choke and a recoil start, and owners confirm the benefit. KCal, 5 stars on 23 Sep 2026, titles the review with the whole experience: assembly is just unfolding the handle and adding oil and gasoline, started first pull. He bought it to bag tall grass and says it worked strong and filled the bag well.

A verified owner on 2 Oct 2026 calls it super easy to assemble and a great quality mower. Lester Steventon, 5 stars on 21 Oct 2026, sums it up as a good powerful self-propelled mower for a good price.

Across our ten, every mower with an automatic choke draws first pull reports and every mower without one draws multiple pull reports. Starting method deserves to be the first spec you check.

The clippings chute is the design flaw

Cronsteel gave the mower 3 stars on 12 Aug 2026 and his complaint is specific. He likes the wider deck, and then says the rear port for clippings plugs up constantly because the hole is not large enough. His only workaround is to leave the attachments off and open the guard, which then throws clippings all over him. He calls the whole arrangement poor design.

Nobody buying a 22 inch mower with a 60L bag wants to mow with the guard open. Mulching sidesteps the problem, since mulched clippings stay under the deck, so owners who do not need to collect clippings may never meet this fault.

What happened to kathy

kathy left 1 star on 16 Oct 2026 and her review is the single strongest warning in this category.

Her account is that the engine disassembled itself from the chassis after 18 months of normal use, inside what she describes as a 2 year warranty. She says PowerSmart then accused her of operating the engine after it had failed. She denies that, says the mower was not run until it had been repaired at her own expense with PowerSmart authorization throughout the process, and that PowerSmart holds copies of all the work orders. Her title calls the warranty a fraud.

One review is one experience and we cannot verify a word of it beyond the fact that she wrote it. Worth noting that PowerSmart does not publish a warranty length in the listing specs at all, so a buyer has no document to hold the company to in the first place.

Small faults on arrival

Terry L. Wisland, 4 stars on 27 Sep 2026, bought the mower when his electric one failed and wanted something cheap. He says it does a decent job cutting the grass, and that one end of the self-propel lever was detached when it arrived, which he fixed with pliers.

Loose or detached levers and bent handles came up on four of the ten mowers we researched. Unbox carefully and work the drive lever before you add fuel.

Who should buy it

Buyers who want a 22 inch rear wheel drive mower and value a star rating they can actually trust. Mulching owners will be happiest, since the rear chute is the weak point.

Anyone who bags every cut should take the SENIX 22 inch at $359.10 instead, which costs almost the same and discharges to the side.

Buy it if

You want a 22 inch rear wheel drive mower and you would rather buy the one whose star rating is actually about the mower, even though that rating is lower.

Skip it if

You plan to bag or rear discharge every cut. Owners report the rear port blocking repeatedly, and the SENIX 22 inch side discharges instead.

Questions people ask

Why does a 3.9 star mower rank above 4.0 star mowers?

Because the 3.9 is real. The 415 ratings on this listing all describe this one mower. The 4.0 ratings on the SENIX listings are averaged across four and five different mowers each. A lower honest number beats a higher pooled one, and we rank on what we can verify.

Does the PowerSmart EasyDrive Pro start easily?

Owners say yes, and it has an automatic choke. KCal, 5 stars on 23 Sep 2026, says assembly was just unfolding the handle and adding oil and gasoline, and that it started on the first pull. Another owner on 2 Oct 2026 calls it super easy to assemble.

Is the clippings chute a problem?

For some owners, yes. Cronsteel, 3 stars on 12 Aug 2026, likes the wider deck but says the rear port for clippings plugs up constantly because the hole is not large enough, and that the only way to stop it is to leave the attachments off and open the guard, which then throws clippings at you. He calls it poor design.

What is PowerSmart warranty like?

Mixed at best. kathy, 1 star on 16 Oct 2026, reports the engine came apart from the chassis after 18 months on what she describes as a 2 year warranty. She says PowerSmart accused her of running the engine after it failed, which she denies, and that she paid for the repair herself with PowerSmart authorization throughout. Her conclusion is that the warranty is a fraud. PowerSmart does not publish a warranty length in the listing specs.

Does it discharge to the side or the rear?

The listing says both in different places. The bullets describe mulching, rear bagging or rear discharge. The product title Amazon sells it under says Mulch, Bag, Side-Discharge. Owners describe a rear port. Treat it as rear discharge and check the box contents when it arrives.
