LawnMaster LMRM2001 Review
9 Cutting Heights and One Pooled Rating
The LawnMaster LMRM2001 is a 20 inch 5-blade push reel mower with nine cutting positions between 1.3 and 2.6 inches. Nothing else here adjusts that finely, and two things to weigh against it are 33.9 lbs of pushing and a 4.1 star rating pooled across all four LawnMaster sizes.
The verdict
Nine cutting positions is a genuinely good spec and LawnMaster deserves credit for it. Most reel mowers give you a lever with three or four stops, or nuts you move between a couple of holes. Nine settings between 1.3 and 2.6 inches is real control.
Twenty inches of cutting width at $129.99 is also $20 under the Scotts 20 inch. On paper the LMRM2001 looks like the value pick at the wide end of the category.
The rating is not what it looks like
Before anything else, the number on the page. The LMRM2001 shows 4.1 stars from 2,077 ratings. So does the 18 inch LMRM1801. So does the 14 inch LMRM1401. So does the 16 inch.
LawnMaster sells all four sizes as variations on one listing, which means Amazon pools the reviews. Everyone who rated a 14 inch LawnMaster is counted in the 20 inch mower’s score, and nothing on the page tells you how the 2,077 ratings break down by size.
Pooling happens all over Amazon and it is not against the rules. Worth knowing anyway, because a 4.1 that covers four different mowers tells you much less than the 4.3 that 2,433 owners gave one specific Great States 415-16.
Weight is the thing to think hardest about
Thirty-three point nine pounds makes the LMRM2001 the heaviest mower in our lineup by nearly four pounds. On a reel mower every pound is a pound you supply the power for.
Amazon’s review summary reflects that, splitting between owners who say it is not difficult to push and owners who call it extremely hard to push in taller grass. Both groups can be right, because the difference between a 2 inch lawn and a 4 inch lawn on a reel mower is enormous.
Sara, reviewing in October 2024, gives the most useful warning. On the short settings the mower cuts so much grass at once that it stalls easily and needs emptying out every couple of feet. Fine height control sounds great until the lowest settings are unusable on a lawn that has grown a little.
Build quality reports are mixed, and specific
Sara liked a lot about hers. Easy to use, easy to pick up, maneuvers well, no loud machine noise, and in her words a good ab and glute workout. Her concerns were a mower that started to squeak after one month of use on concrete, which she expected would need professional conditioning, and no storage cover in the box.
The other report worth repeating comes from a different listing. DTB, reviewing the American Lawn Mower 1304-14 in August 2026, had switched from an orange LawnMaster because the screws came out mid mow and she could not find replacement screws anywhere near her, with no Walmart or Home Depot close by. Her grass grew long while she shopped for a new mower.
Amazon’s own summary lands in the same place, saying some owners praise the sturdy build while others report it breaking easily.
What reel mowers cannot cut
Sara also wrote the clearest list we found of who should not buy a reel mower at all, and it applies to every mower on this page. Not for anyone who wants a very short scalped cut. Not for yards covered with sticks and twigs. The physics do not bend for any brand.
Who should buy it
Flat lawns up to about 6,000 sq ft, kept at a steady height in the middle of its range, where $20 saved matters and 33.9 lbs does not bother you. Nine positions is a real advantage if you fine tune your cut.
Most people buying a 20 inch reel mower should pay the extra $20 for the Scotts 2000-20S. Seven pounds lighter, reaches 3 inches instead of 2.6, has a parts warranty an owner puts at three years, and carries a rating earned by that one mower.

Questions people ask
Is the LawnMaster LMRM2001 rating trustworthy?
The number is real but it is not specific to this mower. LawnMaster sells 14, 16, 18 and 20 inch reel mowers as size variations on one listing family, so all four report the same 4.1 stars from the same 2,077 ratings. Buying the 20 inch means buying a rating that includes everyone who bought the 14 inch, and nothing on the page separates them out.
How hard is a 20 inch reel mower to push?
Harder than a 16 inch, and the LMRM2001 is the heaviest here at 33.9 lbs. Amazon's review summary splits sharply, with some owners saying it is not difficult to push and others saying it is extremely hard to push in taller grass. Sara, writing in October 2024, found it maneuvered well but noted that on short settings it cuts so much grass that it stalls easily and needs clearing every couple of feet.
What is the build quality like?
Mixed, per the owners. Amazon's summary says some praise the sturdy build while others report it breaking easily. DTB, reviewing a different mower in August 2026, left her LawnMaster because the screws came out mid mow and she could not find replacements locally. Sara reported hers starting to squeak after one month of use on concrete and expected it to need professional conditioning.
Why would I pick it over the Scotts 20 inch?
Price and height positions. The LawnMaster is $20 cheaper and offers nine settings against the Scotts quick-snap range. Where the Scotts wins is weight, at 26.9 lbs against 33.9, cutting height, reaching 3 inches against 2.6, and a parts warranty an owner says runs three years.
Does it need sharpening?
LawnMaster says the steel blades are built to last and gives no interval. Sara's experience suggests the thing to watch is not the edge but the bearings, since her squeaking started after a month on concrete. Mowing a reel mower across concrete or driveways is worth avoiding on any model.
