PowerSmart EasyCut 18 Inch Review

The Best Rated Gas Mower on Amazon

The PowerSmart EasyCut is an 18 inch gas push mower with a 144cc engine and an automatic choke, rated 4.3 stars from 516 ratings at $199.99. Owners of small and awkward lawns rate it highest in the category, and the catch is that this version only discharges to the side, so bagging and mulching are not options.

The verdict

Why the cheapest gas mower on Amazon is also the best rated

PowerSmart sells the EasyCut 18 inch for $199.99, which makes it the cheapest mower in our top ten. At 4.3 stars from 516 ratings, it also shares the highest rating in the whole category. Those two facts usually do not go together.

The explanation is simple. An 18 inch push mower with a 144cc engine and a side discharge chute has almost nothing on it to break. No drive belt, no transmission, no bagging chute to clog. Every recurring complaint we found in this category traces back to a part the EasyCut does not have.

Starting it

Starting trouble is the number one complaint about budget gas mowers, and the EasyCut has an automatic choke. You do not prime it and you do not set a choke lever. Pull and go.

Owners back that up. Mark Jones left a 5 star review on 17 Aug 2026 that 8 people found helpful, saying the mower arrived about 90 percent put together, starts easily and instantly, cuts damp 6 inch grass with no problem and cuts nice and even. He adds that he is older and appreciates how easy it is to push. Big papa, 4 stars on 7 Oct 2026, says that once oil and fuel were added it started up straight away.

Across the reviews we read on this listing, not one owner reported a mower that would not start. In a category where that is the most common failure, the absence is worth more than any marketing claim.

What you give up at $199.99

The version at this price discharges clippings out of the side and nothing else. No grass bag, no mulching plug. Your clippings land on the lawn.

PowerSmart does sell a Bagger version at $259.99 and a Bagger and Mulch version on the same listing, so read the option you are selecting. Buyers who want 3-in-1 for less might prefer the 21 inch SENIX push at $249.99, which bags, mulches and side discharges out of the box.

The other trade is width. An 18 inch deck needs roughly a fifth more passes than a 22 inch deck to cover the same ground. On 3,000 sq ft nobody notices. On a quarter acre it becomes the reason you stop mowing on Sundays.

Who actually buys an 18 inch mower

Two groups, and the reviews show both clearly.

Owners of genuinely small lawns are the first. Heley loy, 5 stars on 26 Jul 2026 with 13 helpful votes, wanted something small and light because her old mower was so big and heavy that mowing was a struggle. sloberl, 5 stars on 20 Sep 2026, says the lawn is not big, the mower starts right up and side discharge is exactly what he needs.

The second group already owns a bigger mower. tjstans, 5 stars on 15 Sep 2026, bought the EasyCut for ditches and difficult areas his riding mower cannot reach, and notes his wife prefers it for mowing around the trees. A narrow light mower earns its place as a second machine.

What we cannot tell you

PowerSmart publishes no warranty length on this listing and no fuel tank capacity, and neither does any other gas mower in our ten. Our spec fields say so rather than carrying a guess.

Worth knowing that warranty service is where PowerSmart draws its angriest reviews elsewhere in the range. One owner of the larger EasyDrive Pro describes a fight over a failed engine inside a 2 year warranty. The EasyCut reviews we read contain no such story, though a cheap mower with no stated warranty is still a cheap mower with no stated warranty.

Who should buy it

Lawns under about 5,000 sq ft, and anyone who needs a narrow mower for the parts of a bigger property that a wide deck cannot reach. At $199.99 with the best rating in the category and the simplest mechanics, the EasyCut is the lowest risk way to buy a gas mower on Amazon right now.

Buy it if

Your lawn is under about 5,000 sq ft, or you need something narrow for ditches, borders and corners a bigger mower cannot reach, and you are happy to leave clippings on the grass.

Skip it if

You want to bag your clippings. The bagger version of the same mower is a separate purchase at $259.99, and the 21 inch SENIX push at $249.99 does 3-in-1 out of the box.

Questions people ask

Does the PowerSmart EasyCut 18 inch come with a bag?

No. The version at $199.99 is side discharge only. PowerSmart sells a Bagger version at $259.99 and a Bagger and Mulch version on the same listing, so check the option you are adding to your cart.

Is the EasyCut hard to start?

Owners say no, and the automatic choke is the reason. Mark Jones, who left a 5 star review on 17 Aug 2026 that 8 people found helpful, says it starts easily and instantly and cut damp 6 inch grass with no problem. Nobody in the reviews we read reported a starting fault.

How big a lawn will an 18 inch mower handle?

Around 5,000 sq ft is a sensible ceiling. An 18 inch deck takes roughly 20 percent more passes than a 22 inch deck, so the time adds up quickly on bigger plots.

What is the 516 rating count actually measuring?

Three versions of the mower share it: Side-Discharge, Bagger, and Bagger and Mulch. Nearly all of the reviews we read carried the Side-Discharge tag, so the number mostly reflects the one on sale at $199.99. Pooled counts are normal in this category and we flag them on every product.

Can it handle tall or damp grass?

Up to a point. Mark Jones reports cutting damp 6 inch grass without trouble. A 144cc engine is the smallest in our top ten, so very long or wet grass will slow you down more than it would on a 201cc mower.
