SKIL PM4910-15 Review

The Best Cordless Mower Under $350

The SKIL PWR CORE 40 PM4910-15 is a 20 inch cordless push mower that includes a 6.0Ah battery for $329.99, the most battery per dollar in our top ten. Owners report 40 to 45 minutes a charge, which covers a quarter acre.

The verdict

Spending under $350.00 on a cordless mower usually means a small battery and a narrow deck. SKIL goes the other way with the PM4910-15, pairing a 20 inch cut with a 6.0Ah battery at $329.99, which is the most battery per dollar in our top ten.

Rated 4.5 stars from 188 reviews and carrying the Amazon Choice badge. The review count is lower than the EGO and Sun Joe models, but 74 percent of those reviews are five star and the detail in them is unusually practical.

Runtime owners actually measured

M. McGehee wrote the most useful review on the page, and his test was brutal. He let grass grow from January to June and then cut it. Roughly 45 minutes per battery, needing three full charges to get through the whole yard in those conditions.

Normal conditions look better. Lisa Caraway mowed 40 minutes with charge still in reserve. Marie T LoCicero does her whole small lawn in 20 minutes and had charge left after six uses. Robbin finds a single charge outlasts the hour it takes to do her yard, and she runs two rental properties with a push and a self-propelled SKIL.

SKIL claims the battery cells are wrapped in cooling material for 25 percent longer runtime and twice the battery life. Worth noting because heat is the single biggest cause of lost runtime in cordless mowers, and most brands ignore it entirely.

The charging claim does not hold up

SKIL calls the charger Auto PWR JUMP at 150W. Owners put real numbers on it.

M. McGehee measured about an hour and says plainly that claims of 15 minute charging did not match his experience. Robbin measured about 1 hr 45 min and notes the charger hums the whole time. Alex Dark describes it as charging rapidly, so there is some spread, but plan for an hour rather than minutes.

What to do about clogging

No side discharge port comes on this mower, which is the main design compromise. In tall grass the blade housing packs up and the mower cuts out, then runs fine once cleared.

M. McGehee found a workaround worth copying. Running the mower with neither the mulch insert nor the collection bag fitted improved performance markedly in damp, very high grass. Clippings drop out the back rather than packing inside the deck.

Storage and handling

The telescoping handle folds and the mower stands upright, which matters more than it sounds. Robbin, who is 5 ft 7 in, folds it and lifts it into an SUV trunk to move between properties. Alex Dark mentions the same compact fold.

At 60.9 lbs it is heavier than the EGO LM2114SP and much heavier than the Sun Joe or LawnMaster, so it is not the pick if lifting is a concern. Dibble Daughter uses hers on a steep front hill where a riding mower cannot go, which says something about the grip and the push.

One honest gripe from JonTron20: the polymer deck shows scrapes and scratches easily. Cosmetic rather than structural, and the IPX4 rating means damp does not worry it.

Who should buy it

Quarter acre lots on a budget. For $329.99 you get a 20 inch deck, a 6.0Ah battery and seven cutting heights, which is a specification that costs $100.00 more from EGO.

A self-propelled version exists at $439.99 if you have slopes, and a 6.0 plus 4.0Ah twin battery kit at $443.90 if you want a spare in the box. Replacement batteries run about $174.38 for the 6.0Ah and $109.00 for the 2.5Ah, so budget for that down the line.

What stands out

  • A 6.0Ah battery included at $329.99, the best battery per dollar here
  • SKIL wraps the cells in cooling material, which targets the biggest cause of runtime loss
  • Telescoping handle folds for upright storage, and owners lift it into a trunk
  • IPX4 rated polymer deck
  • Seven cutting heights on a single lever

What to watch

  • No side discharge, so tall grass packs the deck
  • Owners report charge times of an hour to 1 hr 45 min, not the quick charge implied
  • The polymer deck scratches easily
  • At 60.9 lbs it is heavier than most push mowers here
  • Amazon's own spec block lists the cutting width as 3 inches, which is simply wrong

Questions people ask

How long does the SKIL PM4910-15 run on one charge?

Owners report around 40 to 45 minutes per battery. One owner cutting grass left uncut from January to June got about 45 minutes per charge. Another mowed 40 minutes with charge still left, and a third finished her whole small lawn in 20 minutes.

How long does the SKIL 6.0Ah battery take to charge?

Longer than the marketing suggests. One owner measured about an hour and explicitly disputes any claim of 15 minute charging. Another reports roughly 1 hr 45 min and says the charger hums while running.

Can the SKIL PM4910-15 handle a quarter acre?

Yes. Amazon's review summary says owners cut quarter acre lots with power to spare, and one reports using only a quarter of the battery.

What is the real cutting width of the PM4910-15?

Twenty inches. Amazon's structured attribute field says 3 inches, which is a listing error. The title and product description both state 20 inches.

What should I do when it clogs in tall grass?

One owner found the fix by accident. Running it with neither the mulch insert nor the collection bag fitted markedly improved performance in damp, very high grass. The mower cuts out when the blade housing packs, then runs fine once cleared.
